Acid reflux
The backflow of stomach acid into the food pipe. Acid reflux generally occurs because the valve between the stomach and food pipe, the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), relaxes allowing stomach acid back up into the food pipe. This is also called gastroesophageal reflux. close
